Gov. Bill Haslam and Commissioner Kevin Triplett Announce $19.3 Billion in Economic Impact for Tennessee Tourism Industry

Gov. Bill Haslam and Department of Tourist Development Commissioner Kevin Triplett announced Tennessee tourism's direct domestic and international travel expenditures reached an all-time record high of $19.3 billion in 2016, up 4.7 percent over the previous year, as reported by the U.S. Travel Association. The announcement was made during a press conference Aug. 22 at the historic Clayborn Temple in Memphis.

AT&T Launches Fixed Wireless Internet in Obion County and other Rural and Underserved Areas in Tennessee

TROY, TN., July 27, 2017- AT&T* Fixed Wireless Internet1 is now available for rural and underserved locations in parts of Obion County.

Joined by State Senator John Stevens, State Representatives Andy Holt, Bill Sanderson and other community leaders, AT&T announced that residents in Troy and other areas are included in the initial rural and underserved locations in Tennessee to which AT&T has extended Fixed Wireless Internet as part of its FCC Connect America Fund commitment. As a part of this commitment, we plan to reach over 400,000 locations by the end of 2017, and over 1.1 million locations nationwide by 2020.

Union City, Tenn.-Ground was broken for the $37M expansion of the Williams Sausage Co. in Union City.

To be located in the Northwest Tennessee Regional Industrial Park, the 180,000-square foot building will house a frozen and refrigeration warehouse and distribution center, including sandwich assembly and packaging.

Obion Chamber Membership Director Completes  UT Economic Development CourseLauren Tanner, membership director for the Obion County Chamber of Commerce, was one of 47 economic development professionals from Tennessee and five other states to graduate from the 11th annual Tennessee Basic Economic Development Course (TBEDC) on May 11 in Nashville. This week-long course is one of 10 courses offered by the Center for Industrial Services (CIS), an agency of the University of Tennessee Institute for Public Service (IPS), and is considered the cornerstone of the Tennessee Certified Economic Developer (TCED) professional certification program. The course also is accredited by the International Economic Development Council.

Attendees learned best practices in economic and community development, new methods and programs to promote job growth and investment, and discussed emerging trends and factors that shape local and regional economies. This year's diverse class had a range of participants that included chamber of commerce and economic and community development organization professionals, elected and appointed officials, state government agency staff, community planners and business leaders.
