I-69 Updates

According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation, the section of I-69 that runs
alongside Discovery Park of America from a little northwest of the former Wingfoot Golf Course to Reelfoot Avenue was the first of three projects that encompass the I-69 loop around Union City.

Tennessee Expands Retail Recruitment

BIRMINGHAM, AL (November 12, 2021) –The Obion County Joint Economic Development Corporation has chosen Retail Strategies, the leading national community development firm, to develop and execute a retail recruitment strategy for Obion County with a focus on Union City.


Livability recently released the best places to retire in Tennessee, and Union City made the list stating, "Union City has plenty to do, including the state-of-the-art Discovery Park of America Museum and the White Squirrel Winery. In addition, it offers several different active adult communities and assisted living facilities. And, because of its smaller population, the tight-knit community here is unrivaled."

Justice Commission

The Tennessee Supreme Court appointed four new members to serve on the Access to Justice Commission, effective April 1, 2022. They include Sara E. Barnett, Adolpho A. Birch, III, Lindsay Frilling and Kendra Mansur. “The Tennessee Supreme Court is pleased that these individuals accepted the Court’s nominations to serve on the Access to Justice Commission,” said Justice Jeff Bivins, Supreme Court Liaison to the Commission.

February Happenings

In February many things happened! We went to a Women's Conference, attended the Next Move Groups Economic Development Conference, "loved on local business" by spotlighting retailers on social media, hosted 2022 Industry Appreciation Breakfast at Discovery Park of America, and more!

Union City, Tenn.— Green Plains Inc. recently announced a $100,000 donation to the Obion County Fair Association Tornado Relief Fund. This donation will be used to assist those Obion County residents affected by the December 2021 tornadoes. The funds are to be dispersed through the United Way of Obion County.

Annual Day on the Hill

We were able to attend the 110th annual meeting on February 22nd for the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The keynote speaker was Burke Nihill, Tennessee Titans President and CEO.
